Chinese and US delegations held candid and in-depth economic and trade talks in Paris from Sunday to Monday, discussing tariffs, trade and investment cooperation, and existing consultation arrangements. Both sides reached new consensus and agreed to continue discussions under guidance from their heads of state.
During the meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng said earlier consultation rounds had added stability to bilateral trade and the global economy. He noted a US court ruling that found certain tariffs unlawful but said Washington later imposed new import surcharges and measures targeting China. China opposed unilateral tariffs and urged the US to remove restrictions, while both sides agreed to reduce friction, avoid escalation, and explore a cooperation mechanism to strengthen bilateral trade and investment.
