China wins first cross-country relay gold at 2026 Winter Paralympics

At the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Paralympics, China won its first gold in the cross-country skiing relay and also took bronze in the mixed relay. The open relay featured four 2.5 km legs across categories. Visually impaired skier Dang Hesong kept pace with leaders, Wang Tao maintained the gap in the sitting leg, and Wang Chenyang cut a deficit in the standing leg. On the final leg, Yu Shuang overtook Germany to secure gold.

In alpine skiing, Zhang Wenjing claimed gold in the women’s sitting slalom with a time of 1:27.69, beating Finland’s Nette Kiviranta and Spain’s Audrey Pascual. Teammate Liu Sitong finished fifth. In the standing slalom, China’s Zhu Wenjing earned bronze, while Zhang Mengqiu placed fourth.

In wheelchair curling, China narrowly lost 4-3 to Canada in the mixed team final, taking silver and marking China’s 100th Paralympic medal. Key shots from Zhang Mingliang kept China competitive, but Canada’s final throw secured gold.
