China maps out ambitious space plans in 15th Five-Year Plan

China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) sets out a major push to develop its space sector as both a national strategic asset and an economic driver. The plan aims to transform space activities into a market-oriented industry, with reusable rockets, mass-produced satellites, and integrated designs for large-scale constellation deployments.

Satellite internet expansion is a priority, with a national-level constellation integrated with the BeiDou Navigation System to provide communication, positioning, and remote sensing. This “space-air-ground network” will support maritime operations, emergency response, and global communications.

Deep-space exploration will continue, including the second phase of Mars missions, outer solar system research, and potential asteroid threat monitoring. Plans also include reusable heavy-lift rockets, crewed lunar missions, and the development of an International Lunar Research Station in cooperation with global partners.
