Israel said it is preparing to expand military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for broader action aimed at restoring security to northern Israeli communities.
The announcement followed Israeli airstrikes on Beirut that killed at least eight people. Hezbollah responded with about 200 rockets, some launched simultaneously with missile attacks from Iran, triggering alarms across Israel and causing minor injuries and damage.
The escalation comes amid the wider regional conflict that began with a joint U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, during which Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed.
