Mojtaba Khamenei, the new Supreme Leader of Iran, vowed retaliation against the United States and Israel in his first public statement since succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei.
He warned Iran could attack U.S. military bases in the region, open new battle fronts, and use the Strait of Hormuz as leverage by keeping the key oil shipping route closed.
The remarks come as fighting continues following the U.S.–Israeli campaign launched on February 28, with Iran carrying out retaliatory strikes while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation is “far from over.”
