The United Nations Security Council failed to pass a draft resolution proposed by Russia calling for an immediate halt to military actions in the Middle East. The vote saw four in favor, two against and nine abstentions, with the United States and Latvia voting against.
Russia’s UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia expressed disappointment after the rejection.
Earlier, the council adopted another resolution presented by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council, condemning attacks by Iran against GCC countries and Jordan. Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani criticized the decision as unjust and inconsistent with international law.
