The Federal Aviation Administration and the United States Department of Transportation have selected eight pilot projects to test next-generation aircraft, including electric “flying taxis,” across 26 U.S. states.
Part of the Advanced Air Mobility and eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, the trials will test air taxi services, cargo delivery and emergency medical flights using electric or hybrid aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the projects aim to integrate new aviation technologies into the national system, with initial operations expected by summer 2026 while regulators gather data to develop future safety rules.
