Xi Jinping, President of China, on Thursday urged major provincial economies to strengthen efforts to address new economic challenges and improve their ability to analyze emerging issues and find solutions. Speaking during a deliberation with deputies from Jiangsu Province at the fourth session of the National People’s Congress, Xi said developing “new quality productive forces” is key to promoting high-quality development and boosting economic competitiveness, calling on Jiangsu to take a leading role.
He also stressed the importance of integrating education, science and technology, and talent development, while pursuing breakthroughs in original innovation and key core technologies. Xi urged efforts to upgrade traditional industries, expand emerging sectors and plan for future industries, adding that strong provincial economies can help stabilize the national economy. He called on Jiangsu to strengthen economic resilience, better integrate into the unified national market, expand high-standard opening up and explore global markets, while improving employment, raising incomes and strengthening public services to promote common prosperity.
