The European Union-United Nations Strategic Committee on Peace and Security held its inaugural meeting in New York on Tuesday, reaffirming strong support for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and a rules-based international order grounded in international law, a UN spokesperson said.
The meeting was co-chaired by Rosemary DiCarlo, Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Charles Fries. Delegations discussed the evolving global peace and security landscape, including the future of UN peacekeeping operations, special political missions and EU security and defence missions.
Both sides agreed to prioritize cooperation on mission transitions, the women, peace and security agenda, climate and security, strategic planning, conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Established in 2025, the committee meets annually to enhance coordination between EU Common Security and Defence Policy missions and UN peace operations.
