Chinese physicist Jin Changqing has been awarded the Bernd T. Matthias Prize, the highest international honor in the exploration of superconducting materials, becoming the sole recipient worldwide in 2026.
Jin, a research professor at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was recognized for pioneering discoveries in novel superconductors using advanced high-pressure synthesis and characterization techniques. His work covers a broad spectrum of superconducting systems, including cuprate-based, iron-based, hydrogen-rich, elemental and topological compound materials.
Established in 1989 and awarded every three years, the Bernd T. Matthias Prize honors one to three scholars globally for outstanding contributions to the discovery and development of superconducting materials.
