Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Tuesday that China is deeply concerned about the spillover of conflict in the Middle East and urged all parties to immediately halt military operations to prevent further escalation. She said the U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran lack UN Security Council authorization and violate international law, stressing that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Gulf states must be respected.
On the Iranian nuclear issue, Mao said China supports resolving the matter through dialogue and negotiation, respects Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and believes the issue should return to a political and diplomatic track. She also called for safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and maintaining regional stability.
Addressing the Strait of Hormuz, Mao urged efforts to ensure navigation security and avoid disruptions to the global economy. She expressed deep sadness over civilian casualties from the strikes and called on all sides to protect civilians and civilian facilities, saying indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable.
