China’s top political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee, held a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday ahead of its annual session, which will run from Wednesday afternoon to March 11. Spokesperson Liu Jieyi said national political advisors will deliberate work reports and review proposal handling, as the country transitions from the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
Liu said the advisory body has contributed policy recommendations on high-quality development and the formulation of the new five-year plan, revising proposal regulations to emphasize quality and effectiveness. Over the past year, it held 20 symposiums and more than 300 consultative activities on key issues including urban-rural integration, environmental protection, education, healthcare and cultural development, submitting hundreds of proposals and reports to support policy optimization.
The CPPCC also intensified democratic supervision over the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, with 779 members participating in oversight efforts and offering more than 300 opinions. Under its “Better Services for the People” initiative, members carried out thousands of community-level activities and submitted over 3,000 public opinion reports focused on employment, social security, healthcare and elderly care, while advancing reforms in education, science, technology and talent development.
