China has called on all parties to halt military operations and prevent further escalation in the Middle East, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said after Iran retaliated against U.S. military installations in Gulf states following U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran and the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mao said the U.S. and Israeli attacks lacked UN Security Council authorization and violated international law, expressing concern about spillover effects on neighboring countries. She emphasized that the sovereignty and security of Gulf nations should be respected and welcomed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s call for resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.
China also urged an immediate end to military actions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy and trade route, after Iranian media reported the waterway had been declared unsafe amid the conflict.
