China has released its first national standard system for humanoid robots and embodied artificial intelligence, marking a major step in regulating the fast-growing industry. Unveiled in Beijing at the annual meeting on Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence Standardization, the framework covers the entire industrial chain and lifecycle, including basic standards, intelligent computing, components, complete systems, applications, and safety and ethics. It was developed by more than 120 institutions and enterprises under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The standards set specifications for data management, model training and deployment, product development, and operational safety, while addressing ethical considerations throughout the lifecycle. The move follows rapid industry expansion in 2025, regarded as China’s first year of mass production for humanoid robots, with over 140 manufacturers launching more than 330 models. The new system is expected to guide high-quality and standardized development in the sector.
