Protesters rally in Tokyo against PM Takaichi’s dangerous policy agenda

Thousands gathered Tuesday evening in Tokyo to protest Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s push for constitutional revision, expanded military powers, and stronger national intelligence functions. The rally, organized by multiple civic groups, took place in front of the House of Representatives’ Second Members’ Office Building, with participants holding signs reading “Oppose constitutional revision” and chanting slogans such as “No War.”

Demonstrator Noriko Kashikawa said she “100 percent opposes” Takaichi’s agenda, warning it could push Japan toward constant war readiness and eventual self-destruction. University student Matsubara added that the policies “appear to be preparations for launching a war,” calling for a government that better reflects public voices.

Takaichi recently reiterated her commitment to constitutional revision in parliament, emphasizing stronger defense capabilities, increased exports of lethal weapons, and enhanced intelligence—moves that have drawn widespread criticism in Japan.
