Paralympians Millie Knight and Andrea Macri lit the flame for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics on Tuesday in Stoke Mandeville, England, the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement. Knight has won four medals across three Games, while Macri is vice-captain of Italy’s Para ice hockey team.
The ceremony, attended by 200 guests, was hosted by Dame Sarah Storey, Britain’s most-decorated Paralympian. IPC President Andrew Parsons said the event highlights the Paralympics’ growth since the first official Games in Rome in 1960. Milano Cortina 2026 marks the return of the Winter Games to Italy after 20 years.
The torch relay will cover 2,000 kilometers over 11 days, visiting five cities—Milano, Torino, Bolzano, Trento, and Trieste—before the Opening Ceremony on March 6 at Verona Arena.
