U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a State of the Union on Tuesday lasting over an hour and forty minutes, the longest in at least 60 years. He highlighted domestic achievements on the economy, cost of living, and immigration, and international issues including the Middle East and Russia-Ukraine.
Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 36 percent, and some Democrats skipped or protested the address. He praised his tariff policies as driving an economic turnaround, though most costs have been passed to U.S. consumers, and only 34 percent support the strategy.
On Iran, he suggested a military strike is possible if a deal fails. The speech appeared aimed at voters ahead of November midterms. Abigail Spanberger delivered the Democratic rebuttal, criticizing Trump on Epstein, healthcare, cost of living, and immigration.
