A senior Democrat in Congress has accused the United States Department of Justice of withholding FBI interview records involving allegations against President Donald Trump.
Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, said the DOJ failed to release more than 50 pages of material tied to a woman who accused Trump of sexually abusing her as a minor. The documents were part of over 3 million pages related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Garcia said the FBI interviewed the woman four times but released only the first interview, which did not detail her allegations against Trump.
The DOJ said it is reviewing whether any Epstein-related materials were improperly withheld and noted that some released documents contain unverified claims. It also said certain materials were withheld to protect victims’ identities or ongoing investigations.
Previously released documents include photos of Trump with redacted women and a suggestive note reportedly bearing his signature. Testimony from the 2021 trial of Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell indicated Trump traveled on Epstein’s plane multiple times, though Trump denies flying on it or knowing about Epstein’s crimes. A White House spokesperson said Trump has been fully exonerated regarding Epstein-related matters.
