Larry Summers to resign from Harvard over Epstein ties

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers announced on Wednesday that he will retire from his professorship at Harvard University at the end of the academic year, amid ongoing scrutiny over his past ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Summers, who also previously served as Harvard’s president, came under renewed criticism after the U.S. House Oversight Committee released documents showing continued personal correspondence between him and Epstein. Harvard subsequently launched a review of individuals named in the Epstein files, prompting Summers to step down from his leadership role at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government and go on leave from teaching. He will remain on leave until his retirement later this year. Separately, Summers also resigned from the board of OpenAI in November, saying he was deeply ashamed and would withdraw from public roles to focus on repairing personal relationships.
