The Munich Security Report 2026 warns that the world has entered an era of “wrecking-ball politics,” marked by growing disruption of the international order. Released in Berlin on Monday ahead of the Munich Security Conference, the report highlights increasing global instability and uncertainty.
The report notes that the current U.S. administration is a major force challenging the U.S.-led post-1945 international system, contributing to shifts in global governance. Munich Security Conference Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger said the heightened attention on the event reflects both ongoing global crises and Washington’s changing role.
The report also observes rising political movements in Western societies that favor disruption over reform, driven by declining trust in democratic institutions. It cautions that this trend may weaken principled international cooperation, replacing it with transactional politics and regional power dominance rather than shared global norms.
