United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has marked the Chinese New Year by calling for renewed global unity and cooperation amid rising conflicts, inequality, and the worsening climate crisis.
In his message welcoming the Year of the Horse, Guterres praised China and the Chinese people for their support of multilateralism and global solidarity. He highlighted the horse as a symbol of energy, courage, and progress, qualities he said are urgently needed as international tensions grow and multilateral solutions face increasing pressure.
Guterres said the Chinese New Year represents renewal and offers an opportunity for the international community to recommit to shared goals. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to peace, human dignity, and sustainable development, stressing that collective action remains essential to building a safer and more inclusive future.
