Tunisia extends nationwide state of emergency until end of 2026

Tunisian President Kais Saied has extended the country’s state of emergency until the end of 2026, a decree published Thursday in the Official Gazette confirmed. The measures, in place since November 2015 following a deadly attack on presidential guards, grant authorities broad powers, including curfews, house arrests, bans on public gatherings, media monitoring, and restrictions on activities without judicial approval. This marks more than a decade of continuous emergency rule in Tunisia.
