U.S. President Donald Trump said he hopes Washington and Tehran can reach an agreement, dismissing Iran’s warning that any U.S. strike would trigger a wider regional war, while underscoring the scale of the U.S. military presence near Iran. His remarks come as the United States increases pressure on Tehran, raising concerns about possible military escalation, though the White House says Trump has not made a final decision and remains open to diplomacy.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is open to “fair and just” negotiations, despite deep mistrust of the United States following its 2018 withdrawal from the nuclear deal. He said indirect talks have been constructive and that Iran is willing to guarantee its nuclear program remains peaceful in exchange for sanctions relief and recognition of its right to enrich uranium for civilian use. Regional mediation led by Türkiye, Egypt and Qatar is gaining momentum, even as Iran warns it is prepared to respond forcefully to any U.S. attack and military coordination between the United States and Israel intensifies.
