Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday replied to veterans of Zimbabwe’s national liberation war, praising their contributions to national liberation and highlighting the deep friendship forged between China and Zimbabwe during that period. In his letter, Xi said the veterans’ long-standing commitment to China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa friendship was deeply moving, noting that 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and African nations as well as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He emphasized that China has consistently supported Africa’s struggles for liberation, development and rejuvenation, and called for building on the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to further strengthen ties. Xi also expressed hope that the veterans would inspire younger generations in Africa to continue promoting friendship with China, as both sides work together to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future.
