The World Ice Art Championship is underway in Italy as part of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics cultural program. The event features 23 sculptors from 17 countries, including veteran Chinese artist Ji Huailong, who called it “the best in the world.”
Judges evaluate not only technical skill but also artistic impression, proportions, and creative use of ice. Ji’s sculpture of two fish symbolizes the friendship between Italy and China, reflecting the event’s theme of cultural exchange.
Organizers see the championship as a bridge for business and cultural ties. Local officials and China’s Consul General in Milan highlighted collaboration in culture, science, and technology. Many participants have previously showcased their work at China’s Harbin Ice Festival, and the top three in Italy will be invited to Harbin next year. Judging continues over the next two days, with awards on Sunday.
