Chinese scientists have developed a new method to precisely remove harmful proteins inside living organisms, offering new hope for treating diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. The study, published in Cell, introduces a tool called SupTACs, which guides the body’s own protein-destruction system to selectively break down disease-causing proteins with better control over time and location. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences said the method worked well in several animal models, including non-human primates, and could help overcome limits of current drug treatments. The breakthrough is seen as an important step toward future clinical use of targeted protein therapies.
