Yonhap: Drone allegedly infiltrated DPRK tied to ROK ex-President Yoon’s former office staffers

South Korean authorities are investigating two former presidential office staffers over a drone suspected of entering the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Yonhap News Agency reported on Sunday. The two men, both in their 30s and previously employed at the Yongsan presidential office under former President Yoon Suk-yeol, are being probed by a joint military-police team.
One suspect is believed to have built the drone, while the other claimed he flew it to collect data on radiation and heavy-metal contamination near a uranium facility along the Ryesong River in the DPRK. The two also co-founded a drone startup in 2024. The investigation follows a DPRK accusation earlier this month that the Republic of Korea violated its airspace with a drone on January 4. Police are now assessing the motives, circumstances and possible coordination behind the alleged operation.
