A 15-member Palestinian technocratic committee has arrived in Cairo to prepare for the administration of the Gaza Strip, following the start of the second phase of a U.S.-backed ceasefire. Led by Ali Abdel Hamid Shaath, the group aims to restore stability and oversee humanitarian aid in the enclave.
The committee’s arrival, supported by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, comes as the U.S. prepares to form a “peace council” for reconstruction. However, the situation remains dire; despite the October 2025 ceasefire, ongoing clashes and airstrikes continue to cause casualties, with the total death toll since 2023 now exceeding 71,000.
