U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he held a “long call” with Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, describing the conversation as positive and saying the two countries are “getting along very well.” Rodríguez also characterized the call as productive and said it covered a bilateral working agenda and unresolved issues in relations.
Rodríguez plans to send Venezuelan Ambassador to Britain Félix Plasencia to Washington this week, as the United States considers reopening its embassy in Caracas. Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado is also expected to visit the White House.
The developments come amid heightened U.S. involvement in Venezuela, including the seizure of another Venezuelan-linked oil tanker and Washington’s stated intention to control Venezuela’s oil sales, following the U.S. operation that led to President Nicolás Maduro’s capture earlier this month.
