China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Monday provided an update on consultations with the European Union (EU) over an anti-subsidy case involving Chinese electric vehicles. The ministry said both sides have held multiple rounds of talks marked by mutual respect, aiming to implement agreements reached at the China-EU leaders’ meeting and resolve trade frictions.
The parties agreed on the need for general guidance on price undertakings for Chinese battery electric vehicle exporters to the EU, enabling targeted compliance measures in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. The EU will issue a formal guidance document on price undertaking applications, reaffirming non-discrimination and objective assessment standards.
The MOC emphasized that the negotiations reflect positive bilateral dialogue and the ability of China and the EU to resolve differences within the WTO framework, supporting stability in automotive supply chains and reinforcing a rules-based international trading order.
