Liu Haixing, special envoy of CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping, visited Laos on January 13, 2026, to congratulate the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Thongloun Sisoulith on his election as general secretary. Liu delivered a congratulatory letter from Xi and conveyed China’s commitment to advancing the China-Laos community with a shared future. Thongloun expressed appreciation and reaffirmed the LPRP’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Liu also held talks with Bounleua Phandanouvong, head of the LPRP Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations.
