White House says U.S. exits 66 international organizations under Trump’s order

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum ordering the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, saying they no longer serve American interests. The move follows his “America First” policy and targets 31 UN bodies and 35 non-UN organizations.

Most of the organizations are linked to the United Nations and focus on issues such as climate change, labor, global governance, and development, which the Trump administration criticizes as promoting diversity or a “woke” agenda. The U.S. will leave several UN economic and regional panels, as well as bodies like the International Law Commission, the International Trade Centre, and UN Trade and Development.

The withdrawal also includes non-UN groups such as climate and energy organizations, migration and counterterrorism forums, and regional anti-piracy agreements in Asia.

This decision comes as Trump approaches the first anniversary of his second term. Since returning to office, he has already moved to withdraw from the World Health Organization, the Paris climate agreement, and UNESCO, cut U.S. funding to the UN, halted engagement with the UN Human Rights Council, and continued suspending funds for the Palestinian relief agency UNRWA.

On the same day, Trump also questioned whether NATO would defend the U.S. if necessary, shortly after Denmark’s prime minister warned that a potential U.S. military move against Greenland could effectively end the NATO alliance.
