Peng Liyuan chats over tea with wife of ROK president

Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with Kim Hea Kyung, wife of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, over tea in Beijing during Lee’s first state visit to China.

Peng welcomed Kim and stressed that strong people-to-people ties are essential for good relations between countries. She expressed hope that China and the ROK would deepen mutual understanding through more exchanges. Peng also praised Kim’s work in social welfare, especially in protecting the rights of women and children, and said both sides could share useful experience.

Kim thanked Peng for the warm hospitality and said she admired Peng’s long-term efforts in advancing women’s and children’s causes. She added that she is willing to actively promote people-to-people exchanges to strengthen friendship between the two countries.
