China’s box office revenue for the 2026 New Year’s Day holiday period from January 1 to 3 surpassed 730 million yuan, with nearly 1.41 million screenings nationwide and about 18.51 million moviegoers. Regionally, Back to the Past topped the box office in Guangdong, Avatar: Fire and Ash led in eight regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, and Hainan, while Zootopia 2 ranked first in the remaining areas. Overall, the top five highest-grossing films during the holiday were Zootopia 2, Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Fire Raven, Back to the Past, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
