China has launched the world’s first commercial supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO₂) power generation unit, Chaotan-1, in Guizhou. Using sCO₂ instead of steam, the technology boosts efficiency by over 85%, increases net electricity output by over 50%, and reduces site size by half, with potential applications in solar power and other energy fields.
