China accused Japan of deliberately keeping its position on the Taiwan issue ambiguous and misleading the public. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Japan failed to clearly reaffirm past commitments recognizing Taiwan as part of China and the Chinese government as the sole legal government of China.
China said Japanese officials selectively quoted historical documents while ignoring key points, and accused Japan of reviving claims that Taiwan’s status is “undetermined,” which China sees as interference in its internal affairs. The spokesperson cited multiple historical statements by Japanese leaders affirming Taiwan as China’s territory.
China stressed that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China and said Japan, due to its colonial history in Taiwan, has no right to interfere. Beijing urged Japan to honor past agreements, correct its statements, and stop making what China called wrong remarks on the Taiwan question.
