The seventh UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) has concluded in Nairobi, with member states adopting 11 resolutions, three decisions and a ministerial declaration to address climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The measures call for stronger action on issues including coral reef and glacier protection, chemicals and waste management, responsible use of minerals, wildfire cooperation and sustainable use of AI.
The assembly also approved the UN Environment Programme’s strategy, work programme and budget, and elected Jamaica’s environment minister Matthew Samuda as president of UNEA-8, scheduled for December 6–10, 2027.
