OpenAI has launched its GPT-5.2 AI model, offering improvements in general intelligence, coding, and long-context understanding. The update, available first to paid users, also aims to enhance productivity for tasks like spreadsheets, presentations, and multi-step projects.
The release follows Google’s Gemini 3 launch, though CEO Sam Altman said it has had less impact on OpenAI’s metrics than expected. OpenAI continues to address issues like over-refusals and latency and will keep earlier models like GPT-5.1 and GPT-4.1 available.
In a related move, Disney is investing $1 billion in OpenAI and will allow its AI to use characters from Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel in the Sora AI video generator. The rapid updates highlight growing competition in the AI industry.
