An international symposium on human rights in the digital era was held Friday in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together more than 20 scholars, media representatives and civil society members from China and Malaysia. Participants discussed the impact of digital transformation on human rights, emerging challenges, and the principles guiding digital-era rights protection.
Chinese representatives said rapid technological change has made the integration of human rights protection and digital development an urgent global priority, stressing that technological innovation should ultimately serve people’s well-being. Malaysian participants highlighted the growing importance of digital-era rights amid global uncertainty and argued that East Asian countries should be free to pursue human-rights paths suited to their own histories and conditions. Both sides called for mutual respect, inclusive learning and deeper cooperation to advance regional human-rights development.
