Hong Kong holds Constitution Day seminar to boost public understanding

A seminar in Hong Kong was held to mark Constitution Day, organized jointly by the HKSAR government and China’s Liaison Office. Before the event, attendees observed a minute of silence for the victims of the recent deadly fire in Tai Po.

Chief Executive John Lee expressed condolences and said the government is fully focused on relief efforts. He announced an independent committee will investigate the fire to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also said the tragedy will lead to stronger safety measures and institutional reforms.

The seminar’s theme was the role of China’s Constitution in the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.” Lee emphasized that the Constitution is the foundation for both China’s national goals and Hong Kong’s governance. He urged different sectors of society to work together for Hong Kong’s development.

Liu Guangyuan from the Liaison Office said the Constitution supports Hong Kong’s integration into national development and gives the city advantages in contributing to China’s rejuvenation. He added that the December 7 Legislative Council election shows respect for constitutional order and will help maintain stability and support recovery after the fire.

About 900 people from different community sectors attended the seminar.
