U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will soon begin taking action on land to stop suspected Venezuelan drug traffickers, noting that land operations are “easier” than maritime ones. The announcement comes as the U.S. military increases its presence in the Caribbean amid deteriorating relations with Venezuela. Recent U.S. activities include B-52H bombers conducting exercises near the Venezuelan coast, the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford toward the region, and reports of U.S. bombers flying close to Venezuelan airspace — although Trump has denied some of those accounts.
