US push Ukraine peace plan in Geneva amid ongoing battlefield clashes

U.S. and Ukrainian officials began Geneva talks on a U.S.-drafted peace plan for the Russia-Ukraine war. The proposal suggests Ukraine accept Russian control over Crimea and parts of eastern regions, limit its army, and forgo NATO membership, in exchange for security guarantees and reconstruction aid.

U.S. officials stressed it is a framework, not a “Russian wish list,” while European partners say major changes are needed to protect Ukraine’s interests. Russia sees it as a potential basis for negotiations but objects to some terms.

Meanwhile, fighting continues on the ground, with Russia advancing in Donetsk and Ukraine maintaining key defenses. A potential U.S.-Russia meeting and President Trump’s informal Thanksgiving deadline make the coming days critical.
