At COP30 in Brazil, countries showed both division and agreement as they faced worsening climate data. The WMO reported record heat in 2025, making it likely the world will temporarily exceed the 1.5°C limit. UN leaders stressed that the era of negotiation is over and that countries must now implement their climate plans.
A key challenge is that many nations’ climate pledges (NDCs) remain insufficient, and developing countries lack financial support to meet them. Adaptation has become a major focus.
The U.S. did not send a delegation, which China and other participants said weakened global cooperation and made progress harder.
China presented new 2035 climate goals, including absolute emissions cuts, more non-fossil energy, massive wind and solar expansion, and a larger carbon market. Experts called the plan ambitious yet pragmatic.
