Six major Chinese airlines — Air China, China Southern, China Eastern, Hainan, Sichuan, and Xiamen Airlines — announced that passengers can change or refund Japan-bound tickets for free. The move followed a notice from China’s Foreign Ministry advising citizens to avoid travel to Japan, citing recent provocative remarks by Japan’s leader that, according to the ministry, have harmed bilateral ties and created safety risks for Chinese citizens in Japan.
