Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket successfully launched NASA’s twin EscaPADE Mars satellites and achieved its first-ever booster landing at sea, marking a major step in its bid to compete with SpaceX. The mission was New Glenn’s first for paying customers and its second launch overall. The EscaPADE probes, built by Rocket Lab, will reach Mars in 2027 to study how solar wind affects the planet’s atmosphere. The rocket also carried a small Viasat tech demo. Despite the milestone, Blue Origin still trails far behind SpaceX in launch frequency and reusable rocket capability.
