Microsoft and Google are ramping up their AI investments in Europe with massive data center projects.
Microsoft will invest $10 billion in Portugal to build one of Europe’s largest AI computing hubs, in partnership with Nscale and Start Campus. The site in Sines will use renewable energy and host 12,600 Nvidia chips, taking advantage of its location linking Europe and the Americas.
Meanwhile, Google announced a $6.4 billion investment in Germany by 2029, including a new data center in Hesse and office expansions in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. The plan will support about 9,000 jobs a year and include green initiatives like using renewable energy and recycling excess heat for local communities.
