This agreement grants OpenAI access to massive computing resources, including hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs for frontier AI and tens of millions of conventional CPUs for “agentic AI” deployment. This deal is part of a major partnership spree by OpenAI, which already includes deals with Microsoft (an archrival of AWS), Oracle, and Nvidia, among others.
OpenAI will immediately begin using the AWS capacity, with full utilization expected before the end of 2026. This massive infrastructure spending, which some estimate totals around $1 trillion in deals this year, comes as OpenAI works to scale its frontier AI despite its current revenue not yet matching the colossal computing costs. This is the first major deal signed since OpenAI formalized a new structure allowing it more freedom to pursue profit for investors.
