The China-built Balakot Hydropower Project in Pakistan began its main construction phase with river closure. Located on the Kunhar River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the 300 MW project, led by China Energy Engineering Corporation, aims to boost Pakistan’s energy security, support economic growth, and promote green energy. It has created over 2,000 local jobs and is expected to generate 1.144 billion kWh annually, powering about 1.8 million people.
