U.S. President Donald Trump canceled plans to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco, reversing earlier comments about a federal “surge.” In a Truth Social post, Trump said he decided to halt the deployment after speaking with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, who asked for more time and said the city was making progress.
Lurie confirmed the call, stating that while the city welcomes cooperation with federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, and the U.S. Attorney, military or militarized immigration forces would harm recovery efforts.
Democratic leaders, including Lurie and California Governor Gavin Newsom, had been preparing for potential federal troop deployment.
