OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered web browser that directly competes with Google Chrome. The browser integrates ChatGPT to summarize webpages, compare products, and even perform tasks like shopping online through its “agent mode.” It aims to shift users toward AI-based search instead of Google’s traditional search results.
Atlas is currently available on macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android versions coming soon. This move expands OpenAI’s reach across users’ online activities and increases its competition with Google, which still dominates the browser market with around 72 percent share. Analysts say Atlas could eventually challenge Google’s advertising business if OpenAI begins selling ads.
